kenape aku dh lama tak post blog? sebab korang fikir la sendiri nabil...hish raja lawak tol la korang nie.

oke2. kali ni aku bermain2 ngn macro photography plak...lgpun sblm2 nie aku pun main2 ngn macro gak (igt lagi gmbr2 daun aku tu?). sungguh pun aku aku blum lg memiliki Tamron SP 90mm 1:1 macro lens ataupun Raynox DCR 250 close up filter, guna kit lens pun ade pekdahnye...asalkan dpt shooting la kan? zoom ke maximum @ 55mm & small aperture (f6.3) utk menjamin gambar yg sharp, aku mount kamera kapok aku tu kat atas tripod bapak aku yg sungguh tidak steady...set timer then tekan shutter. 0.8 saat exposure. kalau hand held kompom masuk recycle bin la gambar tu. oh ya, ape yg aku shoot? sesuatu yg akan aku kirim kat seseorang jap lagi la...heheh.

Part #2: Why must we shoot in RAW? (untuk kamera2 yang berkaitan sahaja)

Published on 9:34:00 PM 17 June 2008
sambung post sebelum nie. mungkin ada lagi soal jawab selepas ini. (baca part #1 dulu before yang nie. scroll down.)

MOONSYI: so even though my camera colorspace is set to sRGB, i'm still can post process it using Prophoto RGB/Adobe RGB color in my LR/PS? hmm sounds a bit complicated from my POV but will slowly learned. really appreciated them haji DA..

DA: Arising from your conclusion above, it appears you are still unclear about colour spaces. If you want to take your photography a step higher, you seriously need to Google color spaces and read up a bit more on the subject. If you don't want to go read up and understand the technicalities then I suggest you simply adopt the following good habit:-
  • If your camera can capture in RAW, shoot in RAW format.
  • If post processing turns you off and you'd rather go partying, and you want a ready served JPG file, then at least shoot in simultaneous RAW and a JPG format. That way, when you download your files, you will still have the option to save the RAW files of those frames that you regard as special and have the potential for future post processing.
  • Set your in-camera colour space to the widest gamut colour space available in your camera firmware. That'll be either Prophoto RGB or Adobe RGB. The rationale is that you'll ensure all your captured images begin life with a proverbial widest colour space spoon in its mouth. If you then have that once in a lifetime shot, at least you'll have the optimum file to start working on if you wanted to.
  • If and when you post process images, work in 16 bit and use the widest gamut colour space available, which would be ProPhoto RGB or Adobe RGB. This ensures that you are working at the optimum image quality settings available. The downside to this is that your working files will be fatter, and if you have only an ancient computer, the processing time will be noticeably slower.
  • If your images are intended for the internet or kapchai 3R printing at the corner kedai cuci gambar, when you finish post processing, convert your JPG output file to the sRGB colour space, but keep your archive files in ProPhoto RGB or Adobe RGB colour space, and save in Tiff, Photoshop PSD, or if you are using a metadata processor like Lightroom or Aperture, keep the original RAW format. Hard Disks and storage space are cheap, but nothing is more frustrating that to go through your archives 20 years later when you are ready to produce your first photography book, and you find that all those unrepeatable digital images you have in your DVDs or HDDs, are only miserable 150K JPG images in sRGB colour space. I know this feeling well, because I have some really great digital images shot with a Sony Mavica 18 years ago when I first rode my bike to China. My frustration is that 60 digital images sit in one 1.44 MB floppy Disk. And I have dozens of those floppy disks in my bottom drawer. I'm sure some of you still remember what a floppy disk is?
  • After converting your output files into sRGB, its a good habit to recheck the onscreen colour and readjust colours further where necessary.
  • Lastly, do take the time and trouble to colour calibrate your monitors.
I realize the above sounds a little complicated and you are tempted to do like what most people do, that is, disregard all this mumbo jumbo and simply shoot in JPG. That's also an option........for those with bad habits.

Part #1: Why must we shoot in RAW? (utk kamera2 yang berkaitan sahaja)

test 1 2 3...

berikutan dari post aku terdahulu berkaitan dgn 10 Good Habits For A Digital Photographer, ada certain point yg aku highlightkan berkenaan dgn RAW format, post-processing & colorspace....3 benda yang aku paling aku acuh tak acuh dalam dunia photography ni. hahah, no matter bertapa cantik pun korang praise gambar2 aku, tp kat mata otai2 kat Photomalaysia.com (PM.com) biasanya aku dpt komen dan "kritikan" yang sungguh drastik tapi membina buat aku. bagus jugak aku tanye mende2 tu, dpt la respon dari sorang photographer yang aku pandang selama nie, Haji Yusuf Hashim (digitalartist) sbb bagi aku, dia la OTAI CANON PHOTOGRAPHER dari PM.com. berikut merupakan antara indirect soal jawab dengan beliau so far...
MOONSYI: yeah, the first point i'm currently more getting used right now...it seems that jpegs couldn't satisfy me more...but 1 problem i'm facing right now, that is the color when i imported it into my lightroom doesn't seems to yield the correct color i expected to be...any advice for that? what good can we get from convert it into DNG? i'm still preserving the original CR2 files for the moment...
D.A: If your Lightroom is set up properly, the recommended colour space is Prophoto RGB, which has an even wider gamut than Adobe RGB. When you first import RAW files into Lightroom’s catalog, the colour space applied will then be Pro Photo RGB. When you export an image into Photoshop for further processing, depending on how you’ve set up your workspace, you will be given an opportunity to assign a preferred colour space. Personally I work in ProPhoto RGB throughout my post processing workflow. If you have been working in a wide gamut workspace like Prophoto RGB or Adobe RGB, and after completing post processing in Photoshop and you try and save a jpg file for the internet, normally you will have to first convert the image from 16 bit to 8 bit. You do this by clicking on Image/Mode/8 bit. Then you have to click on Edit/Convert to Profile/Destination Space sRGB IEC61966-2.1, which is actually the sRGB colourspace which most displays use and which the internet also uses. If you omit this step and you try to straightaway convert to JPG, your computer will convert ProPhoto or Adobe RBG colour space into sRGB and immediately you will notice a marked darkening of the picture as Photoshop tries to squeeze the wide gamut of ProPhoto RGB into the very narrow gamut sRGB.
So to avoid this darkening, make sure you remember to manually assign the sRGB colour space by hitting Edit/Convert to Profile/sRGB.

With regards to DNG, the advantages of converting your CR2 files to DNG is that DNG is an open file format championed by Adobe. Theoretically, in 50 years time when Canon folds up (like Minolta has folded up) the danger is that you will not be able to open a proprietary RAW format like CR2 or NEF, while with DNG being an open system, it should be possible to open your RAW files., even if both Adobe and Canon folds up. The other benefit of DNG is that it is a slightly more efficient RAW file storage system. DNG files are slightly smaller than CR2 files, and also, all metadata is written directly inside a DNG file whereas with CR2 files, you have a messy system of separate sidecar XMP files which litter your folder system, and which you have to be careful to keep together with your RAW files in the same folder.
Personally, I’ve fully embraced DNG and within my Lightroom Catalog of about 200K images, all the RAW files have been converted into DNG, although I do keep some backup files in CR2 format. As far as I know, the only disadvantage of DNG is the time and effort it needs to do the conversion process. If you let Lightroom do it during the import stage, it’ll take ages. However, some people claim that the Canon RAW processing engine is more efficient in processing CR2 files and ditto for NEF.

10 Good Habits for a Digital Photographer

by Yusuf Hashim

  • Shoot in RAW– your digital workflow should be to have Master Files, Edit Files and Special Purpose files. Metadata processors, like Aperture and Lightroom are extremely powerful cataloging applications which double up as fast and efficient post processing tools. Editing with Lightroom for instance, will help you save Hard Disk space because a metadata processor stores only your editing instructions and not the huge PSD or Tiff files which Photoshop creates, for instance.
  • With Digital, shoot a little to the right of the Histogram. That is err on the side of slight overexposure rather than underexposure. This is because your digital sensor can capture more details in the highlights than in the shadows. During post processing you will find that you can effectively recover details in what appears to be blown highlights, while noise is the result if you try to pull details out of shadows.
  • Where possible, use a Tripod or a Monopod, and a cable release. Make it a habit to carry at least a light monopod. The rule of thumb is, you can hand hold a shot at a minimum shutter speed which is the reciprocal of your lens focal length. A great benefit of shooting with a tripod is that you tend to take more time in studying good angles and good composition. Because digital film is virtually free, we tend not to think carefully enough before we hit the shutter button.
  • Keep lenses, filters, eye pieces and sensors clean. P&S cameras which you keep in your pocket or bag, has a propensity for collecting thumb prints on lenses, filters an eye pieces. Nothing is more frustrating than to have a great shot ruined by a greasy thumbprint on your lens.
  • Use manual focus. Even though modern auto focusing systems are pretty good, very often your camera can lock focus on an inappropriate focal point, especially when there are no sharp edges within the frame. Get into the habit of using manual focus. It’s usually more accurate.
  • Use Spot or Center Weighted metering and explore various exposure alternatives and depth of field options. Don’t trust the LCD at the back of your camera because what you see there is only a tiny thumbnail which usually looks good. You should check the histogram for proper exposure, which means you need to go and learn and understand what a histogram is showing. When chimping what you ought to be looking out for, besides the histogram and clippings, is to look for proper focusing points, proper composition, colour casts, angle of view, cropping or space around your subject and preferred depth of field. . If you are shooting with the intention of converting to B&W, look also for texture, contrasts and lighting.
  • Use the lowest ISO setting possible. With the cheaper digital cameras that newbies usually possess, noise is a major issue when you push ISO above 300.
  • Bracket, Bracket, Bracket. When shooting unrepeatable shots, always consider bracketing the exposure, by at least half a stop on both sides of the exposure suggested by your camera.
  • Use Burst exposure to freeze fast action, and plan ahead for your shot.
  • Take the flash off the hot shoe when shooting with flash, Attach an extension lead for your flash or better still use a remote trigger.
